Statement from Mayor Sam Katz

NEWS @ A GLANCE:

City crews have begun work clearing and salting Priority I and II roads following the current snowfall. Other cleanup activities such as Priority I and II sidewalks have also begun. Cost will be approx. $1 million. Garbage and recycling is on schedule. Transit is experiencing a small city-wide delay. (for more details, please read the full news release below)

WINNIPEG February 20, 2006 - In light of the recent mudslide tragedy in the Philippine village of Guinsaugon, Mayor Sam Katz today issued the following statement.

"I wish to express my deepest sympathies to all of those who have been affected by the recent tragedy in the Philippines. The thoughts and prayers of Winnipeggers are with you during this difficult time, and we offer our condolences to those who have lost family members and friends, and to those whose loved ones are still missing."

"I want to acknowledge the efforts of all Winnipeggers and thank them for doing their part to lend support. Winnipeg is blessed with a thriving Filipino community and I want to express my gratitude to the citizens who have reinforced our reputation as a city that can be depended upon to provide assistance to those who need our help."
