WINNIPEG - October 17, 2005 - On Oct. 22, 2005, the city's centre will welcome the filming of "The Assassination of Jesse James", a new Warner Brothers production. The film will be shot in the Exchange and Downtown until Oct. 28, 2005.
“Being part of a big production like ‘Jesse James’ makes us all proud and none more so than the folks who keep our downtown dynamic and alive” said Councillor Justin Swandel, who attended today’s public information event on behalf of Mayor Sam Katz. “Attracting a world-class film like this is a testament to the professionalism of our growing film industry.”
Highlights
- Street closures will begin in earnest on Saturday, October 22nd and continue throughout the week, check Winnipeg.ca daily for any updates/changes.
- The city will be providing numerous services to support the film on a cost recovery basis.
- Set in the late 1800s, the film will be a closed set with no unauthorized visitors.
- Safety always comes first – with the hustle and bustle of a frontier town movie set meeting a thriving downtown, pedestrians and motorists should obey all barricades and signage.
- The disruption is temporary and we anticipate everything will be back to normal in the Exchange District by Wednesday, Oct. 26.
- Winnipeg Transit will also be re-routing various routes throughout the Exchange during this time. Individual bus stops will be marked with alternate routes and daily information available on the Winnipeg Transit site.
Since filming is contingent upon a multitude of factors, the City is encouraging all visitors to the Exchange district that week to check out the city’s Web site for any last minute changes.
