Water and Waste Department issues advisory regarding water testing services

WINNIPEG - August 26 , 2004 - The City of Winnipeg Water and Waste Department has received reports of an individual contacting city residents in the East Kildonan and Langside areas to solicit water testing services. One individual claimed to offer water quality testing on behalf of the City of Winnipeg.

Please be advised that the Water and Waste Department does not solicit water testing opportunities. It only does water testing by appointment and when requested by the property owner. City residents who have any questions about water services, should contact the Water and Waste Department's Customer Service Centre at 311.

Please note that Water and Waste meter readers are currently visiting homes and small businesses until the end of August. They are visiting homes on weekdays between 4 p.m. and dusk. Water meter readers are dressed in dark blue pants and a light blue striped shirt with a City of Winnipeg Water and Waste logo over the pocket. All readers wear photo identification and carry a hand-held computer. For your safety, please check identification before allowing a meter reader into your home.
