Blue Box Recycling collection delayed
City advises residents to leave Blue Boxes out

WINNIPEG - May 12, 2004 - Blue box recycling collection will be delayed for the next few days. Recycling collection trucks, owned and operated by International Paper Industries, were vandalized last night and 16 of the 23 trucks are inoperable. Dan McInnis, Manager of the City’s Solid Waste Services Division, says “We ask that residents leave their blue boxes out, and we’ll do everything we can to get back on schedule as soon as possible.”

McInnis adds, “The damaged trucks will be repaired as quickly as possible - in the meantime, we will use every available vehicle to service blue boxes. Four trucks normally used for garbage collection will be pressed into service today to collect recyclables. Materials collected with these trucks will be taken to the processing facility and recycled.”
