Winnipeg Committee for Safety Presents Safety Audit AwardsWINNIPEG - November 21, 2001 – Today, during a presentation at City Council, the Winnipeg Committee for Safety awarded its Safety Audit Awards to several community groups.
The Winnipeg Committee for Safety created the Safety Audit Awards, with co-funding under the Winnipeg Development Agreement, to recognize the team efforts involved in undertaking safety audits and safety improvements for the benefit of everyone in the community.
“We are very proud of all the recipients and the many committed citizens who are working in our communities on safety,” said Councillor Jenny Gerbasi, Chairperson of the Winnipeg Committee for Safety, “These safety audit awards highlight the significance of community members’ contributions to neighbourhood safety.”
The Spence Team on Patrol received the Safety Audit Teamwork Award which recognizes outstanding teamwork and leadership in the use of the safety audit tool to identify and address safety issues within a neighbourhood or building environment that contributes to a safer and healthier community.
The Downtown Watch Program, Downtown Winnipeg BIZ received the Community Safety Award which recognizes the cooperation and support of local property owners, landlords, businesses and organizations who have participated in a safety audit process.
The Earl Grey Neighbourhood Safety Association received the Community Building Safety Award which recognizes those groups, organizations, associations, etc. who have shown an exceptional degree of initiative in empowering themselves and others to contribute to neighbourhood safety.
