Mayor Activates Emergency Operations CentreWINNIPEG - SEPTEMBER 11, 2001 - Mayor Glen Murray, on behalf of the City of Winnipeg, shares in the shock and deep sadness and offers condolences to everyone affected by the acts of violence unfolding in the United States.
Mayor Murray is offering full support to the Winnipeg Airport Authority as plane traffic is diverted from American airspace to Canadian airports, including Winnipeg International Airport.
At this point twelve (12) Winnipeg transit buses and approximately twenty (20) Winnipeg Police and the Canine Unit are at the disposal of the Airport Authority to assist in the security and settlement of passengers. Further resources are available as required.
Mayor Murray activated the city’s Emergency Measures Organization Centre at 11:15 a.m. today to co-ordinate an effective response with the Airport Authority.
“We have a team of highly qualified emergency response personnel, who have handled everything from floods to forest fires, “said Mayor Murray. “I am confident that help will be provided in a professional manner.”
Mayor Murray will be available to the media at 1:30 p.m, 2nd floor – City Hall to provide an update.
