Below are examples of the type of entry-level donations that can be made through the Sponsor Winnipeg Program.
Free Swim Night
Opportunity to support disadvantaged youth participation in a free swim and fun night in one of the City of Winnipeg's Aquatics Facility.
Opportunity Support the opportunities for disadvantaged children and youth to attend various recreation programs throughout the city by donating transit passes or covering the cost of van rentals.
Donate books, DVD's, CDs/etc. - Could be branch or collection specific.
Sponsor a Park Bench
Now you can sponsor a park bench in the name of a loved one.
Sport in the Inner City Neighborhood Program (SPIN)
Support the uniform and equipment purchases for SPIN - a LiveSAFE initiative.
Support the opportunity for fun, safe and interactive meeting place for disadvantaged youth in the inner city and other areas of need by donating/covering the cost of furniture at the City of Winnipeg’s Youth Action Centers.
Graphic Art Software and Computers
Support the opportunity for disadvantaged youth at the City of Winnipeg’s Youth Action Centers in learning the current communication medium by donating/covering the cost of graphic art software and computers.
Musical Equipment and Instruction
Winnipeg has a long history of providing some of Canada’s and North America’s most influential musicians. Support disadvantaged youth by donating/covering the cost of musical equipment and instruction on learning to play at the City of Winnipeg’s Youth Action Centers.
Sponsor an Outreach Family Literacy Program for Newcomers.
A weekly program of visits from newcomer EAL (English as an Additional Language) families. The programs develop family based literacy skills reading together and learning about Winnipeg Public Library. This include giving specially selected books used in the program to the families to keep. Sponsorship will be used for participant transportation and high quality, language benchmark-appropriate books for 65 newcomer families.
Little Metis Sing With Me Program
In association with the Louis Riel Institute and the Manitoba Metis Federation, this is a family literacy program that shares Metis history and culture through stories, songs, dance and crafts.
Summer Reading Club Wind-Ups
A series of special performances (music, magic, storytelling, etc.) are presented each August to celebrate the participation and achievements of TD-Summer Reading Club members. On average over 5,800 children participate in the TD Summer Reading Program each year!
This special family story time is conducted in American Sign Language and welcomes children who are deaf, hard of hearing or hearing impaired.
Equipment for the City of Winnipeg’s Aquatic Centers, Fitness, Leisure Centers and Recreation Centers
Support new and updated equipment purchases like: fitness equipment, large screen TV’s, interactive electronic games, etc.
Wading Pools/Outdoor Pools Beach Umbrella
To provide beach umbrellas at approximately 100 City of Winnipeg outdoor pools and wading pools in order for the children, youth, parents and grandparents to enjoy a moment in the shade on a hot summer day.
An Exterior Speaker/Sound System
Donate/cover the cost of purchasing an exterior speaker system that would be used at the many outdoor activities sponsored by the City of Winnipeg’s Community Development and Recreation Services Division.
Family Literacy Playgrounds
Winnipeg Public Library is building for the future by replacing and renovating its various library facilities. As part of those projects the library is establishing Family Literacy Playgrounds within the children's areas of its libraries. Family Literacy Playgrounds bring interactive early learning activities to families in a library setting.
