Lagimodiere Mill and Fill Project

Lagimodiere Boulevard from Springfield Road to 200 metres south of Headmaster Row is scheduled for roadwork during the summer of 2021 as part of the City of Winnipeg's 2020-2021 Regional Street Pavement Renewals Program. The project will involve replacing the existing asphalt surface layer to address cracking and deterioration in the roadway. The project is supported by the Federal Governments New Building Canada Fund and the Government of Manitoba.

Updates

April 30, 2021 – Construction on Lagimodiere Boulevard from Springfield Road to 200 metres south of Headmaster Row is scheduled to begin in late May.

During construction, traffic will be reduced to one lane in each direction; however, we will be working in small stages to minimize disruptions and the directly impacted area. Access to side streets and private properties will be maintained. Staging information will be available online in advance. Parking will not be impacted, as parking on side streets will be maintained and parking on Lagimodiere Boulevard from Springfield Road to 200 metres south of Headmaster Row is already not permitted under normal conditions. Pedestrian access will be maintained throughout the duration of the project.

Please see the preliminary construction notice for full details

March 2021 – The detailed design and tender preparation for roadwork construction is currently underway. Notification letters are currently being prepared for local area businesses, residents, and property owners.

Background

Lagimodiere Boulevard is a major route in Winnipeg, carrying high vehicle volumes. It is a Winnipeg Transit route and full-time truck route. The project will involve replacing the existing asphalt surface layer to address cracking and deterioration in the roadway.

As the project's scope is primarily to restore and repair existing infrastructure, there will not be any public engagement activities associated with this work. Instead, the City will reach out to meet with businesses, residents, and property owners along the project route to provide information on localized impacts, and to gather information about any parking, loading, and/or access concerns that may be affected during construction.

For more information or questions related to the project please contact 311 or email 311@winnipeg.ca. If you are a local business and/or property owner and have not yet been contacted regarding construction, please email PWDCommunications@winnipeg.ca.

What is the Lagimodiere Mill and Fill Project?
The Lagimodiere Mill and Fill Project involves replacing the existing asphalt surface layer to address cracking and deterioration in the roadway.
When will construction begin?
Construction work is anticipated to begin in September 2021 and be completed by October 2021. A notification letter will be delivered to all residents and businesses along the project route two weeks in advance of construction beginning.
Can I provide feedback on what I want to see happen on Lagimodiere?

The project will not have permanent implications for parking, loading, intersection geometries or routing; because of the project's limited scope it will not include any public engagement activities.

We will be reaching out to businesses, residents and property owners in the area to gather information about any parking, loading, and/or access concerns that may be affected during construction. This information will help us stage construction and allow us to make accommodations where necessary to ensure minimal impacts on local businesses, residents and property owners.

How will traffic be affected during construction?
Access to side streets and private properties will be maintained throughout construction and the amount of time we spend with lane closures in place will be minimized. Short-term disruptions will occur as traffic will be reduced by one lane in each direction throughout the duration of the project. Staging information will be available online in advance.
How will parking be impacted during construction?
There will be minimal to no impacts to parking. Parking on side streets will be maintained and parking on Lagimodiere Boulevard from Springfield Road to 200 metres south of Headmaster Row is already not permitted under normal conditions.
How will this impact local area businesses and residents?
We recognize that construction work will create short-term disruptions to businesses and residents along the project route and in the surrounding area. Property access will be maintained throughout construction and we are working with businesses, residents and property owners to mitigate potential issues before they arise.
Who can I talk to about questions or concerns regarding this project?
Please contact 311 or email 311@winnipeg.ca to be connected with the project manager.
I own a property or run a business in the area but am currently staying home. How will I get information I need and provide input on this project?
Please reach out to us. Send an email to PWDCommunications@winnipeg.ca and we will have the project team contact you.
