Homicide - Arrest: C22-105926

Update:

On June 24, 2022, Leah Carol CLIFTON was arrested at a residence in the 500 block of Spence Street. CLIFTON had outstanding warrants for the homicide of Heather Beardy on February 2, 2022, and the homicide of Doris Trout on May 19, 2022.

CLIFTON has been charged with Second Degree Murder x 2 and detained in custody.

These two homicides were unrelated; however, the accused CLIFTON and both victims were acquaintances and involved in the drug subculture.

The Winnipeg Police Service’s Homicide Unit would like to thank the public for assisting in these investigations.

Stabbing – Arrests: C22-143334

On June 29, 2022, at approximately 9:45 p.m., the Winnipeg Police Service responded to a serious assault near Spence Street and Ellice Avenue.

Police were contacted about a group of males assaulting a male by kicking him in the head and then fleeing on foot.

Officers administered emergency medical care to an adult male who had been stabbed and had upper-body injuries. He was transported to hospital in critical condition and later upgraded to stable.

Two suspects were located and taken into custody.

24-year-old Aaron David WOODHOUSE of Winnipeg was charged with Aggravated Assault and detained in custody.

30 year old, Troy William MASTERS of Winnipeg was charged with:

- Aggravated Assault
- Possession of a Prohibited or Restricted Weapon Knowing its Poss is Unauthorized
- Failing to Comply with Release Order

He was detained in custody.

Stabbing – Investigation: C22-143387

On June 29, 2022, just after 11:00 p.m., the Winnipeg Police Service was contacted about an adult male stabbed outside a vendor in the 800 block of Main Street.

Police located an injured male in his forties lying inside the adjoining bar room. Emergency medical care was provided, and the victim was transported to hospital in stable condition.

The victim related he was going to the vendor when he was confronted by more than one suspect demanding his baseball cap. He was subsequently bear-maced in the face and stabbed in his upper body. The suspects took his hat and fled on foot.

Robbery with a Weapon – Investigation: C22-142613

On June 29, 2022, at approximately 8:00 a.m., the Winnipeg Police Service responded to a robbery along the footpath south of Portage/Empress.

Officers met with the victim in his twenties, who indicated that he was walking southwest of the cemetery just minutes earlier when confronted by an unknown male brandishing a sharp object. The suspect demanded the victim’s property and slashed him with the object, cutting through his shirt. The victim managed to escape, and the suspect fled in the other direction.

The suspect is described as:

  • A very tanned, Indigenous male in his forties to fifties
  • Tall, over 6 feet in height, heavy build with a noticeable belly
  • Wearing black pants, a black sweater and a black toque  
  • His voice was described as “raspy/gravelly” sounding
