Reopening of Police Headquarters

The Winnipeg Police Headquarters Service Centre located at 245 Smith Street will open to the public beginning June 22, 2020. Citizens will once again be able file police reports in person daily from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. In-person criminal record/police information checks and non-criminal fingerprinting will be available Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Adhering to physical distancing guidelines, a limited number of people will be permitted inside the building. With physical distancing protocols in place, visitors may experience delays. Please plan your visit taking this into consideration.

We do encourage the public to consider online options for reporting or starting a criminal record check request. 

We ask that members of the public DO NOT attend our facility if they are experiencing any COVID-19 symptoms  or if they have been required to socially isolate due to travel in the last 14 days as recommended by the Provincial Government.

Public access to the service centre is located on Smith Street at Graham Avenue.  The building is situated on a bus route and 30-minute metered parking is available in the Graham Avenue loop in front of the building.  There are paid parking lots throughout the area and additional metered parking available on surrounding streets. Rush hour parking restrictions on surrounding streets from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. on weekdays may apply. 

Our other service centre locations remain closed at this time. We will provide a reopening date for these centres once available.

Aggravated Assault – Investigation: C20-140022

On June 17, 2020, at 1:15 p.m., Winnipeg Police Central District General Patrol officers responded to the corner of Donald Street and Graham Avenue for a report of a male that had been stabbed. Officers located a male in his 30s suffering from multiple, upper-body wounds. The victim was conveyed to hospital in critical condition, however, he has since been upgraded to stable.

This investigation is continuing by members of the Major Crimes Unit. Anyone with information that may assist investigators is asked to call 204-986-6219 or Crime Stoppers at 204-786-TIPS (8477).


Fatal Motor Vehicle Collision – Investigation: C20-140618

On June 17, 2020, at 11:15 p.m., emergency services personnel responded to a motor vehicle collision on Salter Street at Boyd Avenue. An adult male was driving a mini dirt bike when it collided with a car. The adult driver of the dirt bike was conveyed to hospital in critical condition where he succumbed to his injuries. There were no injuries reported by occupants of the car.

The driver of the dirt bike was not wearing a helmet, and the bike was not legally permitted to be driven on a roadway.

The investigation is continuing by members of the Traffic Unit. Investigators are asking for anyone with information regarding this matter to contact the Traffic Division at (204)986-7085 or Crime Stoppers at (204)786-TIPS (8477).
