Homicide – Arrests: C17-184612

As previously released:

On August 18, 2017, at approximately 11:15 p.m., a Division 11 General Patrol unit was flagged down in the area of Sargent Ave. and McMicken St. for a report of an injured male.

Officers located an adult male who had been stabbed. He was transported to hospital in critical condition where he remained.

On August 27, 2017, the victim in this matter succumbed to his injuries and had been identified as Tyler William Ranville, an 18-year-old of Winnipeg.

Members of the Homicide Unit have determined that the victim had been in the area of Sargent Avenue and Young Street when a dispute occurred with a group of males. During this dispute, the victim was stabbed in the upper body and stumbled into traffic where he collapsed.

The investigation resulted in the identification of several suspects.

On August 31, 2017, a 16-year-old male of Winnipeg was placed under arrest in the area of Ellice Avenue and Langside Street.

On September 1, 2017, Nasim Abddullahi Ahmed, an 18-year-old male of Winnipeg, was placed under arrest in the area of Sargent Avenue and Balmoral Street.

Also on September 1, 2017, Yonas Gebremekeal, an 18-year-old male of Winnipeg, was placed under arrest in the area of Sargent Avenue and Young Street.

On September 5, 2017, members of the Street Crime Unit observed a suspect traveling as a passenger in a vehicle in the 1800 block of Alexander. The vehicle fled from police and hit a cruiser car before striking a tree. Abdullahi Jemal Ahmed, a 20-year-old male of Winnipeg, fled and was arrested in the 1800 block of Pacific Avenue after a short foot pursuit.

All four males have been charged with manslaughter and have been detained in custody.

Firearm/Drugs – Arrest: C17-199301

On September 5, 2017, at approximately 2:00 p.m., a Division 11 General Patrol unit was patrolling in the area of Sargent Avenue and Spence Street when they observed a suspicious male carrying a duffle bag.

The male tried to elude police and attempted to discard the bag over a nearby fence. He was stopped in the area and the bag was found to contain a semi-automatic .22 calibre rifle along with ammunition. Both the barrel and the stock had been cut down on the firearm.

Further investigation resulted in the seizure of a quantity of methamphetamine (valued between approximately $400-800) and cocaine (valued at approximately $70).

Jason Steven Tre Sanderson, a 21-year-old male of Winnipeg, has been charged with:

- Possession of a Weapon
- Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm
- Carrying Concealed Weapon
- Possession of a Prohibited Firearm with Ammunition
- Store Firearm or Restricted Weapon Contrary to Regulations
- Possession of a Scheduled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking - Methamphetamine
- Possession of a Scheduled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking - Cocaine
- Possession of Proceeds of Property Obtained by Crime under $5,000

He was detained in custody.

Break & Enters – Arrest: C17-198907

On September 5, 2017, at approximately 1:45 a.m., members of the Winnipeg Police Service responded to a report of a break & enter to a business in the 300 block of Provencher Boulevard.

Upon arrival, members of the K9 unit were able to track the suspect and place him under arrest in the 500 block of Des Meurons Street.

This investigation continued by members of the Major Crimes Unit. It has been determined the suspect is also responsible for a second break & enter to a business in the 100 block of Provencher Boulevard on July 10, 2017.

Ronald Lee Lafantaisie, a 43-year-old male of Winnipeg, has been charged with:

- Break Enter & Theft - Place
- Break & Enter with Intent - Place
- Fail to Comply with Probation Order (x2)

He was detained in custody.

Commerical Robbery – Arrest: C17-198428

On September 4, 2017, at approximately 12:00 p.m., members of the Winnipeg Police Service responded to a report of a robbery at a pharmacy in the 700 block of Sherbrook Street. A lone male suspect had jumped a counter while making threats to employees that he was armed with a gun.

The male stole an undisclosed amount of medication before he fled on foot.

The investigation continued by members of the Major Crimes Unit who identified a suspect. It was also determined that the suspect had broken into a residential suite in the 500 block of Spence Street on September 3, 2017, and stole a large number of electronics.

On September 5, 2017, at approximately 8:45 a.m., Peter Friesen, a 35-year-old male of Winnipeg, was placed under arrest in the 400 block of Sargent Avenue. He has been charged with:

- Robbery
- Break Enter & Theft - Dwelling House
- Fail to Comply with Probation Order (x2)

He was detained in custody.
