Assault & Assault Police Officer – Arrest: C17-179751

On August 13, 2017, at approximately 1:30 a.m., members of the Winnipeg Police Service responded to a report of an assault at an apartment block in the 1000 block of Andrews Street.

Upon arrival, officers located a suspect male in a locked vehicle at the rear of the apartment block. The male was uncooperative with police and refused to exit while attempts were made to place him under arrest. Officers then attempted to forcibly remove the male from the vehicle.

At this time, the male started the vehicle and quickly reversed towards an officer who was required to jump out of the way to avoid being struck.

The male then fled the area in the vehicle at a high rate of speed and became involved in a significant collision with a fenced compound and several parked vehicles near the intersection of Main Street and Partridge Avenue.

He was transported to hospital in stable condition and later released.

Kevin Garth Helm, a 43-year-old male of Winnipeg, has been charged with:

- Assault Cause Bodily Harm
- Assault (x3)
- Assault a Peace Officer with a Weapon
- Resist Peace Officer
- Driving While Ability Impaired
- Fail or Refuse to Provide Sample (Blood Demand)
- Fail to Comply with Probation Order

He was detained in custody.

Assault with a Weapon – Investigation: C17-182265

On August 16, 2017, at approximately 2:30 a.m., emergency personnel responded to a report of a male who had been stabbed in the 100 block of Belmont Avenue.

The victim, a male in his 40’s, was transported to hospital in unstable condition.

Police learned that the victim had gone to his garage at the rear of the property to investigate a break-in to his garage. He was confronted by two male suspects and stabbed a number of times. The suspects fled prior to police arrival.

This investigation is continuing by members of the Major Crimes Unit. Anyone with information that may assist investigators is asked to call 204-986-6219 or Crime Stoppers at 204-786-TIPS (8477).

Robbery – Arrest: C17-181902

On August 15, 2017, at approximately 3:30 p.m., Winnipeg Police responded to a report of Commercial Robbery that had just occurred in the 500 block of Main Street. Responding officers located a male suspect who was being held by bystanders in the area of Alexander Avenue and Main Street.

The investigation determined that a male disguised with a balaclava and armed with a knife had robbed a  grocery store a short time earlier. The suspect had attempted to flee with a quantity of money and cigarettes. A store employee tried to hold the suspect in the store by blocking the door from the outside. The suspect was able to break through a front window and flee.

A bystander, observing the fleeing suspect who was still wearing the balaclava and armed with the knife, tripped the suspect who fell and dropped the knife and the stolen property. The suspect grabbed the bag of stolen property and again attempted to flee, but was held by bystanders for police, however, the bag of stolen property was taken by another unknown individual prior to police arrival.

Steven Sealy, a 22-year-old male of Winnipeg, has been charged with:

- Robbery
- Wear Disguise with Intent
- Possess Weapon Dangerous for Public Purpose
- Mischief Under $5000

He was detained in custody.

Injured Male - Public Assistance Requested: C17-167195

On July 29, 2017, a 50-year-old male was seriously assaulted in the 600 block of Notre Dame Avenue. He remains in hospital at this time, and continued to receive treatment for his injuries.

Investigative efforts have identified the following female as a suspect in the attack:

Jolene Kathy OWEN, 35-years-old

Winnipeg Police are also attempting to identify the following two suspects who are believed to have been involved in the attack:
