New Officers

A career as a Winnipeg Police Officer is a career unlike any other. Depending on the division an Officer is assigned to, or the call-for-service they receive, each will come with their own unique challenges and experiences. As no one day is the same, this holds true for their duties and responsibilities. An Officer may find him or herself responding to a Traffic complaint, investigating a criminal offence, collecting evidence, arresting a suspect, testifying in court or educating a member of the community on personal safety.

As these duties include daily interactions with members of the public excellent interpersonal, social perceptiveness and listening skills are critical in analyzing a situation and determining the appropriate action to take. Proficient organization skills, being physically fit and having the ability to work within a team setting are necessary attributes to be successful.

Prospective Police Constable Applicants Please Note:

The Winnipeg Police Service will begin accepting applications for Police Constable starting January 31, 2019. Recruit Class #163 start date is anticipated for January 2020.

Please note there have been changes to our selection process as we move to an ongoing recruiting process.

Increased and comprehensive screening will be undertaken earlier in the process and result with a decrease to the number of potential applicants moving through the competition at certain stages.

Changes in the process will benefit applicants by reducing upfront requirements and costs at time of initial application.

Please refer to our Selection Process drop down menu for specific details.
