Winnipeg Police Service


A comprehensive 16 weeks, full time, paid academic and skill-set training program is provided by the Police Training Academy.

    • 10 weeks academic and 6 weeks field training
• Powers of Arrest • Criminal Code, By-laws and Provincial legislation
• Use of Force • Police Vehicle Operations
• Communication Skills • Policies & Procedures
• Cultural Diversity • Search and Seizure
• Referral Agencies

Field training consists of six-weeks of paid full time coaching to gain experience working as a Cadet.

Probationary Period

Auxiliary Cadets are considered to be on probation for 24 months or a two-year period

Additional Training Opportunities

The Winnipeg Police Service supports and encourages its members to continue their training and education. Ongoing training and opportunities for experiential learning will be provided on a regular basis as a Cadet. Advanced courses of study are also offered through:

  • The Winnipeg Police Service Training Academy.
  • City of Winnipeg Corporate Education.
