Winnipeg Police Service

Lateral Entry Eligibility

The Winnipeg Police Service offers a lateral entry program to those individuals who are interested in continuing their Policing career with the Winnipeg Police Service. To be eligible as a lateral entry candidate, an applicant must meet the following requirements:

  1. Be a serving member of a Police Organization whose standards and training are comparable to those of the Winnipeg Police Service, as determined by the Winnipeg Police Recruiting/Human Resources Unit.
  2. Be eligible for an honourable discharge from the Police Service of which they are a current member.
  3. Have a minimum of two (2) years continuous police experience.

Prospective Police Constable Applicants Please Note:

We are not currently accepting applications for Police Constable. Please check back soon.

Please note there have been changes to our selection process.

Increased and comprehensive screening will be undertaken earlier in the process and result with a decrease to the number of potential applicants moving through the competition at certain stages.

Changes in the process will benefit applicants by reducing upfront requirements and costs at time of initial application.

Attach all documentation listed below. 

  1. Current Resume (REQUIRED)
  2. Grade 12 Diploma or GED - Diploma or Final Transcripts (must say graduated) (REQUIRED)
  3. Foreign Credential Academic Assessment (REQUIRED IF APPLICABLE)
  4. Driver's license with photo (REQUIRED)
  5. Proof of Canadian Citizenship or Permanent Residency - i.e. Birth Certificate, Canadian Passport, Canadian Citizenship Card, Landed Immigrant Paper or Permanent Resident Card (REQUIRED)
  6. Police Agency Training and/or Certificate (Required)
  7. Note: Driver's abstract as well as Vision & Hearing Tests are not required with application.

IMPORTANT: *Applicants who have been educated outside of Canada must have education which is comparable to the minimum qualification in Canada.  Applicants submitting foreign credentials require an official academic assessment report issued by a recognized Canadian assessment service at application.*
