Winnipeg makes list of world’s top intelligent communities for 2020
List highlights places ‘most ready for the 21st century’

For the eighth time in the past 10 years, Winnipeg has made the Intelligent Community Forum’s Smart21 list. The Forum’s list recognizes 21 communities it deems most ready for the 21st century. The communities were selected based on several factors that determine a community's competitiveness in the digital economy.
“This recognition helps highlight the work the City of Winnipeg is doing to embrace technology and apply it in ways to improve the quality of life for our residents,” said Glen Cottick, Acting Chief Innovation Officer.
One example of this Cottick mentioned is the integration of technology within Winnipeg Public Library.
“We also provide online resource guides on topics including employment, health, Indigenous resources, and access to 40+ online learning databases, all with the goal of empowering our residents,” he said.
In February 2020, the list will be shortened to the Top7 Intelligent Communities with one place going on to be crowned the Intelligent Community of the Year in June. Winnipeg had previously been named a Top7 Intelligent Community in 2018, 2016, and 2014.
The Intelligent Community Forum is a global network that helps communities use information and communications technology to create inclusive prosperity, tackle social and governance challenges, and enrich their quality of life.
