St. Boniface Library wins prestigious award for outstanding service to Manitoba’s Francophone community

Employees at St. Boniface Library have received a prestigious award recognizing all of their hard work and dedication to Manitoba’s Francophone community.

Since 2005, the Prix Ronald-Duhamel – Ronald Duhamel Award is given out every two years to governmental or quasi-governmental-body employees at the federal, provincial or municipal level. This is the first time City of Winnipeg employees have received this honour.

“It was a total surprise, said Danielle Robidoux, St. Boniface Library’s Branch Head.

The award is named in honour of Ronald Duhamel. He was a senior public servant in the Government of Manitoba as well as a federal MP, minister and senator.

“I think the St. Boniface library is the corner stone of our Francophone community and when you come in here people are so helpful and friendly,” said Carolyn Duhamel, Ronald’s widow.

All employees at St. Boniface Library speak both French and English. Around 75 percent of the collection is in French and programming is delivered in French as well.
