Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to a structure fire on Sachet Place

Released: January 25, 2023 at 11:24 p.m.

Winnipeg, MBAt 7:40 p.m. on Wednesday, January 25, 2023, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to reports of a fire in a single storey home in the 0-100 block of Sachet Place.

At the scene, crews saw heavy smoke coming from the home. Firefighters attacked the fire from inside and the fire was under control at 8:56 p.m.

All occupants safely self-evacuated before crews arrived. No damage estimates are available.

Preliminary observations suggest the cause of the fire was accidental and related to a vehicle plugged in inside an attached garage. WFPS recommends that residents do not plug in vehicles inside attached garages, as this can cause a fire that can spread quickly before occupants notice it. Residents should also inspect extension cords regularly to ensure they are not damaged, which can also lead to a fire.
