Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to fire on Bannerman Avenue

Released: January 31, 2023 at 4:33 p.m.

Winnipeg, MB – At 12:37 p.m. on Tuesday, January 31, 2023, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to reports of a fire in a two-storey, single-family house in the 300 block of Bannerman Avenue.

When crews arrived at the scene, they found heavy smoke and flames coming from the house. Crews fought the fire from inside the house, declaring it under control at 1:17 p.m.

The freezing temperatures created challenging conditions for firefighters, with the area around the scene becoming ice-covered and slippery. Crews were rotated in and out of operations as required to provide them with breaks from the cold.

Crews completed a search of the house and no persons were found. No injuries were reported. Two cats were located and brought to safety. The Winnipeg Animal Services Agency attended the scene and took over care of the pets.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. Damage estimates are not available at this time.
