Weapon & Drug Offences – Arrests: C23-21219

On January 27, 2023, at approximately 5:11 a.m., a Central District General Patrol unit was travelling on Sargent Avenue near Simcoe Street when they observed a vehicle driving in front of them with a licence plate obscured by snow. The hatchback began taking a series of sharp turns, and two passengers were observed acting suspiciously.

A traffic stop was conducted at Wellington Avenue and Burnell Street. Soon after, officers observed a can of bear spray on the vehicle's floor.

The three occupants were removed from the vehicle, at which time one of the passengers (Johnson) identified himself as someone else and produced an ID in that name. He attempted to flee on foot but was apprehended in the 800 block of Lipton Street after a brief foot pursuit.

The other two suspects were arrested at the hatchback without incident.

A search of the vehicle, the suspects and their property resulted in the seizure of a number of items, including the following:

- Two cans of bear spray
- 15.9 grams of cocaine
- 51 grams of fentanyl
- 238 percocet tablets
- Two mobile phones
- Score sheets
- $2,430 in Canadian currency

Anthony Johnson, a 36-year-old male of Toronto, Ontario, has been charged with:

- Possession of a Weapon
- Possession of a Scheduled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – Cocaine
- Possession of a Scheduled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – Fentanyl
- Possession of Proceeds of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5000
- Possession of an Identity Document
- Identity Fraud - Intent to Avoid Arrest, Prosecution or Obstruct Justice
- Escape Lawful Custody

He was detained.

A 43-year-old male of Winnipeg is facing charges of:

- Possession of a Weapon
- Possession of a Scheduled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – Cocaine
- Possession of a Scheduled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – Fentanyl
- Possession of a Scheduled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – Oxycodone
- Possession of Proceeds of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5000

A 32-year-old female of Winnipeg is facing charges of:

- Possession of a Weapon
- Possession of a Scheduled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – Cocaine
- Possession of a Scheduled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – Fentanyl
- Possession of a Scheduled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – Oxycodone
- Possession of Proceeds of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5000

They were released on Undertakings (as mandated by the Criminal Code).
