Released:

November 25, 2022 11:02 am

On November 24, 2022, the Winnipeg Police Service was contacted regarding two WinnipegTransit drivers who had been assaulted while performing their duties.

At approximately 2:45 p.m., a male passenger yelled and swore while aboard a transit bus. The driver stopped the bus at Notre Dame/Sherwin and made verbal attempts to calm him down. As this proved futile, the driver requested the assistance of a supervisor and asked the male to leave. The male spit on the driver before exiting, and once outside, he ripped the windshield wiper off the supervisor’s vehicle.

At approximately 5:45 p.m., the same male boarded another bus without paying. Again, acting belligerently, he was asked to exit the bus at Vaughn/Portage. As he was leaving, he spit on the driver. Transit supervisors and police were notified of the accused’s location.

Police took him into custody at a nearby bus shelter. He was transported to a hospital for a precautionary medical assessment. While at the hospital in police custody, he threatened to kill one of the previous victims.

Sheldon Lee WOODHOUSE (52), of Winnipeg, was charged with the following offences:

- Assault x 2

- Uttering Threats - Cause Death or Bodily Harm

- Mischief Under $5,000/Obstruct in Enjoyment

He was detained in custody.
