As previously released:
On May 3, 2022, at 10:08 p.m., members of the Winnipeg Police Service responded to a parkade at The Forks for a report of an assault.
Upon arrival, officers located an injured adult male and began to provide emergency medical care. The male was transported to hospital in critical condition, where he was pronounced deceased.
The deceased has been identified as Kyle James Craik, a 27-year-old male of Winnipeg.
Update:
Members of the Homicide Unit continued with an extensive investigation, which included the arrest of a 23-year-old female on the date of the incident.
The investigation by the Homicide Unit has determined that the female was confronted by the deceased male, who was previously unknown to her. An altercation ensued, which resulted in the death of the male.
After a thorough review by a Senior Crown Attorney and Manitoba Justice, it has been determined that no charges will be laid – as it was deemed that what would otherwise be an unlawful act was committed to defend herself, which was considered reasonable under the circumstances.
