Firearm Offences – Arrests: C23-20267

On January 25, 2023, at 10:47 p.m., West District General Patrol members responded to a townhouse in the 2300 block of Pembina Highway for a report of a semi-automatic rifle (with ammunition) that had been found.

Public housing security had been dispatched to the address for an unrelated matter and, during their duties, came across the firearm.

With the assistance of the Tactical Support Team, the two occupants of the residence were safely taken into custody. Officers subsequently seized several items, including the following:

- A Kodiak Defense .223 calibre rifle (with an obliterated serial number)
- An ammunition magazine loaded with .223 rounds
- Additional .223 rounds
- 9mm rounds
- A ballistic vest

Stuart James Asham, a 48-year-old male of Portage La Prairie, has been charged with:

- Store Firearm or Restricted Weapon Contrary to Regulations
- Possession of a Firearm Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized
- Possession of a Prohibited Device or Ammunition Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized
- Possession of Firearm, Restricted/Prohibited Weapon or Ammunition Contrary to Prohibition Order (x3)
- Tampering with Serial Number of a Firearm
- Breach of Recognizance
- Possess body armour without a valid permit or in a manner inconsistent with the valid permit (The Body Armour and Fortified Vehicle Control Act)

Madison Sage Durupt, a 23-year-old male of Winnipeg, has been charged with:

- Store Firearm or Restricted Weapon Contrary to Regulations
- Possession of a Firearm Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized
- Possession of a Prohibited Device or Ammunition Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized
- Possession of Firearm, Restricted/Prohibited Weapon or Ammunition Contrary to Prohibition Order (x2)
- Tampering with Serial Number of a Firearm
- Possess body armour without a valid permit or in a manner inconsistent with the valid permit (The Body Armour and Fortified Vehicle Control Act)

Both were detained.
