Winnipeg, MB – Seven City-owned community centres will receive funding for renovations through the City of Winnipeg’s Community Centre Renovation Grant Program (CCRGP).
“Winnipeg’s unique community centre model brings our neighbourhoods together and helps give them an identity,” said Mayor Scott Gillingham. “Through the Community Centre Renovation Grant Program, the City supports volunteer boards by making critical investments to ensure these facilities can continue to host families for many more years.”
“Every community centre in Winnipeg is filled with unique stories from the many gatherings, sporting events, and celebrations that take place in them,” said John Orlikow, Chairperson of the Standing Policy Committee on Community Services. “I’m thrilled to support these seven centres through the Community Centre Renovation Grant Program, and I want to thank the many staff and volunteers whose hard work ensures that more stories will be written by generations of Winnipeggers to come.”
The community centres receiving grants are:
- Fort Garry
- Norberry-Glenlee
- Robert A. Steen
- Roblin Park
- Varsity View
- Westdale
- Westridge
The CCRGP received 14 applications, requesting a total of $1,015,220 during the Fall 2022 Intake period. Seven applications totaling $513,625 were approved.
The program ensures that City-owned, board-run community centres can access much-needed assistance required to complete facility repairs, upgrades, retrofits, safety improvements, and renovation projects.
The program has two intake periods each year: a spring intake in March and a fall intake in October. Since the program’s inception in 2012, the City has invested over $14.4 million towards community centre renovations across Winnipeg.
