Assault with a Weapon - Arrest: C22-279781

Released: December 4, 2022 at 10:50 a.m.

On December 1, 2022, at approximately 8:00 p.m., patrolling members of the Winnipeg Police Service observed a confirmed stolen vehicle being operated in the city's North End.

East District Community Support Unit officers attempted to execute a traffic stop at Pritchard Avenue and McGregor Street when the suspect vehicle, a 2018 Audi A5 Quattro driven by a lone occupant, rammed their police cruiser, rendering it inoperable. The vehicle fled the area and was subsequently involved in a motor vehicle collision at Main Street and Cathedral Avenue. The suspect abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot. The other vehicle's driver suffered an upper-body injury due to the collision and was transported to hospital in stable condition and subsequently released.

Coordinated efforts by multiple city-wide units, including assistance from Air1, were utilized to locate the suspect. Officers from the Central Community Support Unit subsequently found the suspect hiding in the rear lane of Bannerman Avenue and Main Street. Officers recovered a large knife near the abandoned vehicle and a matching sheath on the suspect’s person, which they seized as evidence. Officers safely placed the adult female suspect under arrest without further incident.

The Major Crimes Unit assumed the investigation and linked the suspect to a November 6 Aggravated Assault incident where she attended a residence in the 700 block of Pacific Avenue, threatened to kill the 55-year-old male victim within (known to her), and discharged a firearm through the front door of the residence. The victim was transported to hospital and received treatment for a lower-body injury.

Investigators also learned the 2018 Audi A5 Quattro had been reported stolen earlier in the day on December 1st from the 600 block of King Edward Street.
