On August 3, 2024, at approximately 5:45 p.m., the Winnipeg Police Service responded to the report of a robbery in the 900 block of McCalman Avenue.

Officers from the East District located a 14-year-old male with serious upper body injuries as well as an injured adult female in her 30s.

Both victims were transported to the hospital, the male unstable and the female in stable condition. The youth has since remained in serious condition but has now been upgraded to stable condition.

General Patrol located and arrested the two suspects in the 1600 block of Regent Avenue West, and they were turned over to the Major Crimes Unit.

After speaking with the female victim, investigators learned that she and her teenage son, who are newcomers to the City, were walking home near Kent Road and Nairn Avenue. They were confronted by the two suspects who were asking for money. When they refused, they were both assaulted with a baseball bat. The male victim was rendered unconscious, and his mother sustained lesser injuries. They were robbed of personal property, including a cell phone, and the suspects ran away.

The incident was determined to be random as the victims and suspects did not know each other.
