Missing Child Located on Riverbank: C23-233888

Released: September 28, 2023 at 10:10 a.m.

The Winnipeg Police Service received information regarding a missing 6-year-old male on September 26, 2023, in the 600 block of Oakenwald Avenue.

Officers learned that the child had run off. Numerous police resources were dispatched, including West District General Patrol, River Patrol, Cadets and the Drone Unit.

An extensive search was initiated throughout a large area which included the riverbank as the child had a known attraction to water. Members of the Winnipeg Police Service River Patrol located the child in the water near the 600 block of South Drive. A River Patrol officer entered the water and rescued the child, who appeared to be a moment away from being submerged.

The child was safely returned to his caregivers.

The Winnipeg Police Service would like to thank the community for their support during this incident.
