Theft Investigation – Arrests: C23-188999

Members of the Property Crime Unit have arrested two adult suspects after a crime spree between June 5 and August 28, 2023, targeting eyewear businesses within the City of Winnipeg.

- On June 5, 2023, at approximately 7:15 p.m., the suspect entered a business in the 1500 block of Regent Avenue West while attempting to conceal their identity. The suspect selected 23 pairs of designer sunglasses valued at over $5600 and fled.

- On June 12, 2023, at approximately 7:00 p.m., the suspect entered a business in the 1200 block of St. Mary’s Road while attempting to conceal their identity. The suspect selected 30 pairs of designer eyeglass frames valued at over $11,000 and fled.

- On June 23, 2023, at approximately 8:45 p.m., the suspect entered a business in the 500 block of Sterling Lyon Parkway while attempting to conceal their identity. The suspect selected 60 pairs of designer sunglasses valued at over $22,000 and fled.

- On July 6, 2023, at approximately 7:45 p.m., the suspect entered a business in the 500 block of Sterling Lyon Parkway while attempting to conceal their identity. The suspect selected 46 pairs of designer sunglasses valued at over $21,000 and fled.

- On August 4, 2023, at approximately 6:35 p.m., the suspect entered a business in the 500 block of Sterling Lyon Parkway while attempting to conceal their identity. The suspect selected 67 pairs of designer sunglasses valued at almost $30,000 and fled.

- On August 28, 2023, at approximately 7:30 p.m., the suspect entered a business in the 1200 block of St. Mary’s Road while attempting to conceal their identity. The suspect selected 72 pairs of designer sunglasses valued at over $25,000 and fled.

Nearly 300 pairs of designer eyewear were stolen, with a total value of over $116,000.

On September 8, 2023, a search warrant was executed at a suite in the 2300 block of Pembina Highway. Over 40 pairs of designer glasses valued at over $12,000 have been recovered.

Anthony RODRIGUEZ, 22, of Winnipeg is charged with the following offences:

- Theft Over $5,000 x 6

Rodriguez was detained in custody.

A 20-year-old female is facing the following charges:

- Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000

She was released on an Undertaking as mandated by the Criminal Code.
