Declared Snow Route Parking Ban lifted

Released: December 30, 2013 at 3:09 p.m.
Ban will be enacted again mid-week to complete snow clearing operations

Winnipeg, MB - The public is advised that the Declared Snow Route Parking Ban that was put into effect Saturday, December 28, 2013 has now been lifted. The Declared Snow Route Parking Ban is an extension of the Annual Snow Route Parking Ban, which is currently in effect daily from 2:00 a.m. to 7:00 a.m.; Sunday, December 1, 2013 to Saturday, March 1, 2014.

Sanding trucks continue to address conditions on the roadway and improve traction. Crews are currently addressing problematic intersections with grader and loader support on the regional and collector/bus route network. Sidewalk and lane clearing is also continuing through the entire network until completion.

Truck plowing provided a timely service to the conditions over the weekend storm event, with over 300 pieces of equipment deployed.

To assist in the further removal of compacted snow on the streets, grader plowing will begin at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday January 1, 2014 on the regional network, followed by the collector/bus route network. To assist this operation, the Declared Snow Route Parking Ban will be enacted beginning at 12:00 a.m. Thursday, January 2, 2014.

Vehicles parked in violation of the Declared Snow Route Parking Ban will receive a $100 ticket and may be towed to the towing company’s compound. The ban will be in place until snow clearing is completed and the public will be notified when the Declared Snow Route Parking Ban is lifted.

Residential streets will be assessed at the end of the regional and collector/bus route grader plow. Weather information has forecasted a system entering into the Winnipeg region for Friday, January 3, 2014. As the date approaches, the City will determine if residential clearing operations are required.

Snow clearing operations are undertaken in accordance with the City Council-approved Snow Clearing and Ice Control Policy, which can be found online at City of Winnipeg - Snow Clearing Policy
