Launch of Millennium Library's redesigned Second Floor and Aboriginal Resources Area

Released: May 15, 2013 at 2 p.m.

Winnipeg, MB - Earlier today an event was held to celebrate the opening of the newly renovated Special Services on the second floor at the Millennium Library. The renovation of the second floor was made possible, in part, by a bequest from the estate of Mr. John Grant McDonald, a long-time library user.

“I was moved by John McDonald’s gift and I’m glad his memory will be honoured in such a fitting way,” said Mayor Sam Katz. “Mr. McDonald’s gift will enhance the library experience for everyone who makes use of the Special Services Department for years to come - what an outstanding legacy.”

One of the highlights of this project is a beautiful, new, space designed specifically for the adult Aboriginal Resources Area. Created with the input of Anishinaabe interior designer Destiny Seymour, and using imagery and materials of significance to a number of indigenous cultures, this light-filled space welcomes people of all backgrounds who are interested in learning more about First Nations, Métis and Inuit topics. The space was also designed with flexible furniture arrangements for programming.

Additional changes to this popular destination include a new layout for collections and computers for greater accessibility, and the opening of an outdoor seasonal balcony.
