Winter fun for everyone in Winnipeg parks

WINNIPEG, MB - The City of Winnipeg wants to remind the public there are numerous opportunities available to enjoy outdoor activities at City parks and facilities this holiday season. The City's Parks and Open Space Division and neighbourhood community centres offer a wide range of outdoor amenities and locations for winter activities, sure to be fun for everyone.

Winter park amenities include; skating ponds at designated locations, community club skating rinks neighbourhood pleasure rinks, toboggan slides, hills and cross country ski trails.

Tobogganing
Kildonan Park, Waterfront Drive, Bunn's Creek Park, St. Vital Park, Crescent Drive Park and Fraser's Grove Park all have their toboggan slides open to the public.

Skating
This year, as construction is taking place at the Peguis Pavilion in Kildonan Park, the skating rink will be located next to the toboggan slides. Benches and picnic tables will be located around the rink including outdoor portable toilets in front of the Pavilion in the parking lot. Please note there will be no change facility open at Kildonan Park this year.

Warm up shelters are open for the holidays at both St. Vital Park and Harbour View Recreation Complex except Christmas day. There are over 40 pleasure skating rinks in neighbourhood parks. Please see the link below to find one near you.

Cross-country skiing
This winter's conditions have allowed our cross country ski trails to open early. Locations include; Kildonan Park, Harbour View, St. Vital Park, La Barriere Park, and Living Prairie Museum.

Toboggan Hills: (7:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.)

  • Civic Park, 901 Kimberley Avenue
  • Victoria Jason Park (Crocus Park), 255 Redonda Street
  • Kilcona Park, 1229 Springfield Road. Shared Use Park with toboggan run located adjacent to Off-leash Area, look for signage posted.
  • Harbourview View Recreation Complex, 1867 Springfield Road
  • Westview Park, 1 Midland Street. Shared Use Park, watch for signs indicating areas to use for sliding.

Winter Slides: (9:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.)

  • Crescent Drive Park, 781 Crescent Drive
  • Kildonan Park, 2015 Main Street
  • Bunn's Creek Park, 365 McIvor Avenue
  • St. Vital Park, 190 River Road
  • Fraser's Grove Park, 85 Fraser's Grove
  • Waterfront Drive, Waterfront Drive and George Street

Regional Park Skating Rinks
Skating hours are 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.
Please be mindful of staff and equipment working on the ice.
(Christmas Day - no ice maintenance or washrooms open to the public)

Kildonan Park - beside the toboggan slides (north of Chief Peguis Pavilion)
2015 Main Street, open daily 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.

Harbourview Recreation Complex
1867 Springfield Road, open daily 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. Change facilities available.
Salisbury House Restaurant opens from noon - 6:00 p.m. during the holidays.

St. Vital Park Duck Pond
190 St. Vital Road, open daily 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Change facilities available.

Crescent Drive Park
781 Crescent Drive, open daily 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.

Pleasure Rinks
There are 43 smaller neighbourhood pleasure rinks maintained for public use.
