Is my property at risk from flooding?

Properties in Winnipeg can be affected by different types of flooding including: basement, overland, snowmelt and river flooding.

Basement Flooding

Overland Flooding

Snowmelt Flooding

River Flooding

The City has made significant investments in permanent flood protection since the 1997 flood. These investments include primary and secondary dikes, land drainage improvements and upgrades to combined sewer systems.

Using flood forecast information from the Province of Manitoba, the City of Winnipeg will identify homes and properties that need a sandbag dike, and will contact property owners directly using hand-delivered notices. If you are not contacted, your property has not been identified as being at risk of river flooding.

Even if your home does not require a sandbag dike for river flood protection, your property may still be at risk from basement, overland or snowmelt flooding.
