William Avenue closed between Sherbrook Street and Children's Hospital emergency entrance

Winnipeg, MB - William Avenue will be closed between Sherbrook Street and the Children’s Hospital emergency entrance on Saturday December 6, 2014 from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. This area will be completely closed to all vehicular traffic to accommodate overhead crane work. Pedestrian access will be maintained on the north side of William Avenue. Access to the Children’s Hospital emergency entrance will also be maintained.

Motorists are advised to allow for additional travel time or to use alternate routes in this area to reach their destinations.

Residential fire on Pritchard Avenue

Winnipeg, MB - At 5:47 a.m. on Thursday, December 4, 2014, firefighters and paramedics from the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to a report of a fire in a two-storey home in the four-hundred block of Pritchard Avenue. When crews arrived to the scene, heavy smoke was emanating from a second-floor bedroom window. Five stations responded, and crews were able to access the fire and bring it under control quickly.

The home’s nine occupants, five adults and four children, self-evacuated before fire crews arrived. Paramedics checked the occupants as a precaution, but there were no injuries reported.

The wood-framed home sustained fire damage on the first and second floors, and smoke and water damage throughout. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Winnipeg, MB - Starting at 9:00 a.m. on Friday, December 5, 2014, the southbound curb lane of Osborne Street from River Avenue to Stradbrook Avenue will be temporarily closed for sewer repairs. This lane is expected to reopen no later than mid-afternoon.
