$25K sponsorship announced for Children's Program Room at Henderson Library

WINNIPEG - May 12, 2011 - Mayor Sam Katz, joined by Sandy Shindleman, President of Shindico Realty, today announced a Sponsor Winnipeg contribution of $25,000. As a result of this contribution, a room in the newly-renovated Henderson Libary will be called the Akman/Shindleman Children's Program Room.
"Sponsor Winnipeg was created in the spirit of connecting all of those who want to give back to the community that has given to them, and provides a multitude of opportunities to do so," said Mayor Sam Katz. "This contribution by the Akman and Shindleman families assists with the cost of renovations recently completed at the Henderson Library."
"We are very happy to be able to contribute to the Children's Program Room at the Henderson Library," said Sandy Shindleman, President of Shindico Realty. "This library has been a staple in the community in its current location for 50 years and its busy use is a great testament to young learners."
Sponsor Winnipeg is a partnership program which provides public-spirited individuals, businesses, corporations, foundations, and community groups with opportunities to sponsor a wide variety of City of Winnipeg assets and programs, in return for naming rights, legacy opportunities and other marketing benefits associated with sponsorship of City facilities and services.
This continuing program supports the City's commitment to deliver high quality services to the citizens of Winnipeg by generating new revenue sources.

WINNIPEG - May 12, 2011 - EMS Week 2011 is being held across Canada May 13 - 21, 2011. The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) is working with its partners to provide a variety of educational and entertaining activities, to highlight the emergency medical system in our community.
Friday, May 13
What: 3rd Annual EMS Night at the Shaw Ballpark Where: Shaw Park Time: Game Starts at 7:00 p.m.
Emergency service members and their families are invited to join the department to cheer on the Goldeyes who will take on the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks. The first pitch will be thrown by a WFPS member.
Sunday, May 15
What: 3rd Annual EMS Bike Ride in support of the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba Where: Assiniboine Park Time: 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
EMS and emergency service personnel from across the province and the general public are invited to participate.

What: Public Access Defibrillator (PAD) Recognition Where: University of Manitoba, Bannatyne Campus, 727 McDermot Avenue Time: 10:00 a.m.
The WFPS and the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba will showcase the University of Manitoba Bannatyne Campus' implementation of a PAD at their facility and unveil a guide to assist other organizations implement PAD technology.
Wednesday, May 18
What: EMS Children's Day at the Zoo Where: Assiniboine Park Zoo Time: 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
WFPS and the Winnipeg Police Service (WPS) in partnership with the Assiniboine Park Zoo will host an Emergency Services Children's Day for schools and the general public, which will highlight health and safety messages and include guided tours, activities and displays.
Thursday, May 19
What: Semi-automated external defibrillator (SAED) and Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) Awareness Where: 11 participating schools Time: 10:00 a.m.
The WFPS and the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba will provide CPR and SAED awareness and training to grade 11 and 12 students at participating Winnipeg schools. Over the course of EMS Week, a total of 15 schools and over 2,000 students will participate.
