WFPS provided with alternative to maintain and renew paramedic licences
WINNIPEG - July 28, 2006 - The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) has reached an important step in its ongoing service improvement efforts: ensuring that Primary Care Paramedics working on fire trucks renew and maintain their paramedic licences, as required by Manitoba Health.

24 HOUR NOTICE - Small agricultural area of northwest Winnipeg to be fogged under West St Paul Provincial West Nile Virus order
WINNIPEG - July 27, 2006 - As announced earlier today, the Province of Manitoba ordered fogging for West Nile virus in the Municipality of West St Paul. The West St Paul West Nile virus Fogging Program will extend into a small agricultural area of the North West Quadrant of Winnipeg. Fogging will be conducted on Friday — July 28, 2006 between the hours of 10:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m., weather permitting. City recommends following tree watering guidelines
WINNIPEG - July 27, 2006 - Given that many trees in Winnipeg are beginning to show signs of dry weather stress, the City's Urban Forestry Branch is encouraging citizens to follow these guidelines in caring for their trees.

Status of fire at 65 Higgins Avenue
WINNIPEG - July 19, 2006 - Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service personnel were dispatched to a fire at 65 Higgins Avenue at 00:29 hours this morning.

Fort Rouge Park wading pool closed for repairs
WINNIPEG - July 19, 2006 - The wading pool at Fort Rouge Park, 295 River Avenue will be closed for repairs until further notice. Repairs are needed following a fire to the wading pool building yesterday. The site was safely secured last night and Public Works is currently assessing the damage and extent of repairs required.

Cancellation of Public Hearing
WINNIPEG - July 14, 2006 - The City of Winnipeg's Public Hearing on the proposed new Zoning By-law, scheduled for Tuesday July 18, 2006 has been cancelled. Feedback from stakeholders has indicated that given the comprehensive changes to the By-Law, additional time would provide an opportunity for further consultation and allow the By-law to be more fully embraced by the community.

The shape of things to come
WINNIPEG - July 11, 2006 - The Winnipeg Parking Authority has started deploying a new breed of parking meter to city streets. The city is planning to replace its stock of 2,500 rusted, broken and obsolete parking meters with up to 300 modern pay stations. The machines are similar to those commonly in use in off street lots in Winnipeg. Parkers use a coin or credit card to purchase a receipt, and display the receipt on the dash of their vehicle.

City of Winnipeg issues $60 million of debentures in capital markets
WINNIPEG - July 11, 2006 - The City of Winnipeg successfully launched a $60 million 30-year debenture in the Canadian capital markets on Monday, July 10, 2006. The yield on the issue was 5.211 per cent and the debentures mature on July 17, 2036. The proceeds of the issue will be utilized to assist in the construction of the water treatment plant.
