January 21, 1999 - Today, Mayor Glen Murray delivered his first "State of the City Address", at noon, at the Winnipeg Chamber of Commerce.
Winnipeg Marks 125th Anniversary
January 19, 1999 - Today, Mayor Glen Murray invited all Winnipeggers to celebrate our 125th anniversary. Although the City was incorporated in November, 1873, citizens did not have a political voice until electing Mayor Francis Cornish and twelve aldermen in January. The first council meeting was held January 19th, 1874, exactly 125 years ago today.
125th Anniversary of Winnipeg's First Council Meeting
January 15, 1999 - Mayor Glen Murray invites journalists and photographers to mark the 125th anniversary of Winnipeg's first ever City Council meeting. Although the city technically was incorporated in November 1873, the "birth" of Winnipeg is widely considered to be January 19th, 1874, when Council met for the first time at noon.
