Garbage collection service
for small businesses

Who is eligible for this service?
Small businesses that produce between 0.5 and 3.0 cubic metres (1.0 - 4.0 cubic yards) of garbage per week and use our garbage collection service are eligible.

Who provides the recycling containers?
We provide the recycling containers at no charge. You can choose from two types of containers:

  • plastic carts – 2 wheeled containers, with a 360-litre capacity
  • metal bins – 2.25 cubic metre capacity (2250 litres). These are as large or larger than your garbage bin, and available with wheels and lockable metal lids if requested.

How often are the recycling containers serviced?
We service plastic carts and metal bins once every week, on a set day of the week, including all statutory holidays. Plastic carts should be placed along the roadway by 7:00 a.m. on collection day.

Could I lock or secure my metal recycling bin?
Yes. If you lock the bin, be sure to unlock it before 6:00 a.m. on collection day. We provide a bin unlocking service for $10 per month.

Could I lock my recycling cart?
No.

What materials can I recycle?
You can recycle three types of materials:

Containers

  • plastic containers with a recycling triangle on the bottom, including all bottles, pails, tubs and jugs
  • aluminum drink cans
  • steel (tin) food cans
  • milk and juice cartons
  • juice boxes (all sizes)

Paper products

  • newspapers and inserts, flyers and junk mail
  • magazines, phone books, office paper, shredded paper and envelopes
  • cardboard egg cartons and paper tubes
  • flattened cardboard, e.g., cereal, cracker, tissue, laundry, shoe and packing boxes
 
Glass

  • glass jars and bottles (clear and coloured)

Am I required to have a container for each of the three materials?
No. All recycling material can go in one container without sorting.

Who is responsible for cleaning and maintaining the recycling containers?
Business owners are responsible for maintaining the recycling containers. Upon request, we will clean the recycling containers once a year.

What if my recycling container gets lost or damaged?
Business owners are responsible for replacing or repairing damaged containers unless the contractor damages them during collection. Replacement parts for the recycling carts, such as wheels and lids, can be purchased from our recycling contractor by calling 204-633-9730.

How do I sign up for the recycling program?

Can I sign up for the recycling program at any time?
Yes, as long as you are eligible and are receiving our garbage collection service.
