Garbage collection service for small businesses

Recycling collection service
for small businesses

What is the benefit of signing up for your garbage collection service?
We provide recycling collection service at no extra charge to small businesses that use our garbage collection service. The cost of recycling service is included in the quarterly charge for garbage collection service.

Who is eligible for this service?
According to the City of Winnipeg Solid Waste By-law, small businesses that produce between 0.5 and 3.0 cubic metres (1.0 - 4.0 cubic yards) of garbage per week are eligible.

What if my small business produces very little garbage?
If your business produces less than 0.5 cubic metres of garbage per week:

  • we will provide garbage collection service at no charge (if your business is in the northwest area and served by automated cart collection service, you are entitled to two 240-litre carts at no charge)
  • there is a charge if you want recycling service (the current rate is $22.75 per quarter)

What is the charge for your garbage collection service?
The cost is $3.50 per cubic metre of garbage bin size collected. Your quarterly payment will depend on bin size and collection frequency. The 2010 rates are below.

Bin size Every two weeks Once per week Twice per week
0.5 cubic metre Not available $22.75 Not available
0.75 cubic metre - two 360-litre carts (cart area only) Not available $34.12 Not available
1.0 cubic metre (AutoBin where available) $22.75 $45.50 $91.00
1.5 cubic metre (front load bin) $34.19 $68.25 $136.50

When would I be invoiced?
You would be invoiced at the end of each quarter. Payment is due 15 days from the invoice date.

Is this rate subject to change?
If our collection costs increase, the charge may increase accordingly.

Who would provide the garbage bins?
You would be responsible for obtaining the bins. You can rent or buy them from most private garbage collection companies. If you are in the northwest area served by automated cart collection service, we will provide the carts at no charge.

Could I lock or secure my garbage bins?
Yes. To ensure that others do not use the service you are paying for, you may consider placing lids and locks on the bins. If you lock the bins, be sure to unlock them before 6:00 a.m. on collection day. We provide a bin unlocking service for $10 per month.

What steps can I take to keep my garbage collection costs down?

  • Recycle. This will help you reduce your volume of garbage, and perhaps the size of your bin or the number of times your bin is serviced.
  • Share a garbage bin with a neighbouring business.
