Recycling bulk metal - A public service offered to metal salvagers that provides sale of discarded metal goods (including household appliances/water tanks) that are specifically directed to be stockpiled by residents bringing same to landfills.
Environmental protection programs
Abandoned landfill monitoring - A public service offered to citizens at risk that provides regular and systematic monitoring of the underground environment surrounding 29 closed disposal sites to assess potential methane and leachate contaminations of the atmosphere or ground water.
Bio-solids application - A public service offered to agricultural land holders that provides recycling of bio-solids from wastewater treatment, application, and monitoring of the bio-solids application. This is done with environmental municipal approvals.
Ozone depleting substance appliance collection and disposal - A public service offered to ozone-depleting substances appliance disposers that provides special collection and refrigerant removal of the community's unwanted refrigeration appliances - both from properties and from units delivered to the landfill - with appliance and refrigerant being recycled.
Recycling bulk metal - A public service offered to metal salvagers that provides sale of discarded metal goods (including household appliances/ water tanks) that are specifically directed to be stockpiled by residents bringing same to landfills.
Recycling Christmas trees (Let's chip in) - A public service that provides the operation of geographically dispersed seasonal Christmas tree recycling depots and the making of wood chips therefrom for free collection and use by the general public and the City.
Recycling spring/fall leaves and yard waste (Leaf it with us) - A public service that provides the seasonal establishment and maintenance of geographically dispersed leaf and yard waste collection depots, and the transport and disposal of bagged collections to landfill, for composting and ultimate soil conditioning applications.
Recycling material collection, processing and marketing - A public service which provides regular weekly collection of recyclable materials from blue boxes at single-family residential premises, operation of recycling depots for multi-family premises, and the processing and marketing of these materials.
Recycling used tires - A public service that provides the stockpiling and recycling of all rubber tires brought into the landfills by residents.
Septic waste hauler licensing and monitoring - A public service that provides licensing and inspection of septic waste hauling vehicles as well as monitoring of loads discharged to ensure compliance with sewer by-law 92/2010. Also licensing ensures appropriate disposal fees are collected.

Flood control - A public service that provides education regarding overland and basement flooding, operation and maintenance of land drainage sewers/flood gates/flood pumping stations, and design/construction and maintenance of dikes.
Land drainage collection - A public service offered to property owners that provides collection and disposal of land drainage, land drainage storage in retention ponds (also known as stormwater retention basins or man-made lakes).
Residential solid waste bulky waste collection - A public service offered to property owners that provides for the special collection and disposal of items material designated as bulky waste, as specified in the solid waste by-law 1340/76.
Wastewater sewer connection repair - A public service offered to qualified homeowners that provides technical assessment and financial assistance for repair of house sewer service connections, as per section 37 of the sewer by-law. Water pipe private service thawing - A public service offered to water service customers that provides thawing of private water pipes.
Water system hydraulic consultation - A public service offered to premise owners sprinkler system designers, insurance companies and consulting engineers that provides hydraulic performance data for a specific location in the water distribution system.
Septic tank and field permits licensing - A public service offered to septic tank/field-owning residents and contractors that provides permission and inspection of private wastewater disposal systems to ensure compliance with sewer by-law 92/2010. Also providing advice to residents and contractors as well as dealing with failed systems.
Residential solid waste bulky waste collection - A public service offered to property owners that provides for the special collection and disposal of items material designated as bulky waste, as specified in the solid waste by-law 1340/76.
Solid waste collection - residual - A public service offered to property owners that provides collection of residual solid waste material from residential premises including apartments and small commercial premises.
Solid waste disposal - residual - A public service that provides the disposal of unwanted community waste materials in an environmentally sound burial system.
Wastewater collection, treatment and disposal - A public service that provides collection, transmission, treatment and disposal of wastewater.
Wastewater industrial service support - Includes the monitoring for and generation of overstrength wastewater surcharges and the assistance to industry in efforts to reduce industrial wastewater and toxic hazardous discharges.
Wastewater sewer connection repair - A public service offered to qualified homeowners that provides technical assessment and financial assistance for repair of house sewer service connections, as per section 37 of the sewer by-law. Water hydrant use permission - A public service offered to water hydrant users that provides the customer with permission to install meter and backflow protection on hydrant for purpose of consuming water.
Water pipe private service thawing - A public service offered to water service customers that provides thawing of private water pipes.
Water production and distribution (potable) - A public service offered to the residents of Winnipeg that provides the supply, storage, treatment, pumping, distribution and metering of potable water.
Water sales standpipe (potable) - A public service offered to private water haulers that provides sales of potable water from standpipes via coin or key operated devices. Water haulers provide transportable storage containers.
Dead animal collection and disposal - A public service offered to citizens at risk that provides collection and disposal, in an environmentally consistent manner, of all dead birds and animals found on the streets and river/creek banks, within two hours of notification by the public. If the dead bird or animal is located on private property, it is the property owner's responsibility to properly dispose of the carcass.
The West Nile virus dead corvid pick up program has been discontinued since 2006 as dead corvids (crows, ravens, magpies, blue jays, etc.) are no longer needed as an early indicator of West Nile virus in Manitoba.
