Going away? Turn off your water

If you’re going away for an extended period of time, you may consider turning your water off - except when water is used for heating purposes.

If a plumbing problem occurs while you’re away, having the water turned off could protect your property from damage and high costs associated with a water leak.

To shut your water off:

  • Simply close the shut-off valve and open faucets to relieve pressure in the lines.
  • If there is no shut-off valve, you may be able to close the water supply to toilets, sinks, tubs and washing machines as they often have individual shut-off valves.
  • More information about turning your water off can be found on the water services webpage.
