POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the supervision of an Entomology Technician 1 or Entomology Technician 2, the Technical Assistant Entomology worker performs semi-technical work in the field of entomological research or insect pest management including surveying, collecting, identifying and preserving insect specimens. The Technical Assistant Entomology also responds to public inquiries concerning pest biology and control.
QUALIFICATIONS:
1.Completion of a minimum one year in the biological sciences from a recognized University or Technical College.
2.Must possess and maintain a valid class 5 Manitoba Drivers License.
3.Must be willing to obtain a Pesticide Applicators License in Core and Mosquito.
4.Familiarity with City streets and locations.
5.Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships and to relate well to the public.
6.Ability to safely handle, mix, and apply insecticides.
7.Knowledge of insect identification would be an asset.
8.Must be physically fit as determined by completion of a pre-placement health assessment.
9.Ability to work outside in unfavourable conditions for extended periods of time.
10.Must be willing to participate in the Branch Health program including participation in cholinesterase monitoring program that includes regular blood tests to ensure that cholinesterase levels are within safe limits.
