Deer Crossing Signs

Deer Crossing

There are hundreds of deer-vehicle collisions throughout the City each year. Deer are the only freely moving animals of a height and size that constitute a hazard to motorists when struck (as opposed to cats, dogs, rabbits, geese etc.).

Consequently, only deer crossing signs will be installed and then only under the following circumstances:

  • On any section of street where it crosses a well-defined deer trail, as confirmed by the Naturalist Services Branch of the Parks and Open Spaces Division.
  • On any section of street with a speed limit of 60 km/h or more that exhibits a wild animal collision history in excess of 1 collision/year/km of street over the most recent 5-year period.
