Also known as "Pasque Flower". The harbinger of spring on the prairies, blooming in late April through May. Later on, the much dissected leaves form a dense tuft (up to 30 cm wide and 20 cm high). The floral emblem of Manitoba and South Dakota. Prairie Crocus is slow to grow, usually blooming for the first time in its 3rd year, but is very long-lived. Seeds should be stratified.
