Management and Restoration

Managing and restoring ecologically significant land in our urban area involves many activities or techniques. The goal is to make sure that natural areas stay natural and that ecologically significant areas disturbed in the past are restored to their natural function. That means controlling invasive species, removing garbage and restoring areas where the natural vegetation was removed in the past. Maintenance of these areas also involves activities such as controlled burns to control weeds and reduce litter (dead leaves and plants). Other projects include adding trails which provide access to these nature areas and interpretive signs to explain and educate.
