Natural Areas

There are many nature areas throughout the city of Winnipeg where you can experience the natural heritage of our region.

Some of the most significant and largest areas are:

  • Assiniboine Forest (Aspen/Oak Forest, Meadow, Wetland)
  • Living Prairie Museum (Tall Grass Prairie)
  • George Olive Nature Park (Wetland, Prairie)
  • Little Mountain Park (Aspen/Oak Forest, Prairie)
  • La Barriere Park (Riverbottom/Oak Forest)
  • Rotary Prairie Nature Park (Tall Grass Prairie, Aspen Forest)
  • Bois-des-Esprit on the Seine River (Riverbottom/Oak/Aspen Forest, Wetland, Prairie)
  • LaSalle River corridor (Riverbottom/Oak/Aspen Forest, Wetland, Prairie)

There are around 1000 hectares of natural areas found throughout the parks and geenspaces of our city. Maps and descriptions can be found by following the Nature in Parks link. By using the maps you can obtain a description of the natural area including a natural heritage quality assessment and a list of plant species found on the site.
