Background and Public Consultation Process
The Disraeli Bridges Project involves the refurbishment of the Disraeli Bridges, including a bridge and overpass that were originally constructed in 1959/60.
The procurement model is a Design Build Finance Maintain (DBFM) for the new construction of a vehicular bridge and a pedestrian/cycle bridge. One of the drivers for using this model is that in addition to the City's experienced staff, this will bring external engineering and contractor experience to the table. In combination, this expertise represents the best mix of experience available to generate the optimal solution to replace this key piece of transportation infrastructure.
A major consideration of the DBFM project has been to complete construction in the shortest possible time with the least possible disruption to affected businesses and the travelling public. The construction plan will also ensure that all lanes of the existing Disraeli Bridges remain open during construction.
