Osborne Street Bridge Rehabilitation Project

This project is now complete.

What to expect during construction

The bridge will be open during construction with a reduced number of lanes. There will be two southbound lanes and one northbound lane at all times except for the morning rush hour when there will be two northbound lanes and one southbound lane. If there is a need for minor closures, these will be short and communicated well in advance. Feedback from businesses indicates concern about the impact during construction of increased traffic congestion and the longer time for customers and employees to cross the bridge to reach their business.

Osborne bridgeOne sidewalk will be available throughout construction. During the first year when the east side of the bridge is re-built, the west sidewalk will be used; the east sidewalk will be used during the 2012 construction season when the same work is done on the west side of the bridge. Cyclists will be required to dismount when crossing the bridge using the sidewalk.

Usual construction hours will be restricted to 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Monday to Friday. The contractor will be allowed to work Saturday, Sunday and statutory and civic holidays in compliance with the City of Winnipeg Neighbourhood Liveability By-Law 1/2008.
