Ridgewood South Precinct Natural Areas Assessment

At the request of the City of Winnipeg Planning, Property and Development Department the Naturalist Services Branch completed a Natural Areas Assessment of the lands in the Ridgewood South area. The purpose of this assessment is to ensure that all landowners and stakeholders involved in the planning process for this precinct have an accurate picture of the natural habitat which is present in the area. The Natural Area Assessment is one of numerous components considered as part of the precinct planning process.

The Natural Areas Assessment designates a letter grade to these areas based in large part on the plant species/community which is present. It is an initial step in the Ecologically Significant Natural Lands Strategy and Policy (ESNL) which seeks to make recommendation about which natural areas are highest priority for preservation. The ESNL process also takes into account community value of a natural area stand. We gladly accept any additional information or comments that you would like to provide regarding the natural areas in this report.
