Inkster Boulevard Widening Project
Noise Barrier Construction
Project Update August 18, 2010
As part of the Inkster Boulevard Twinning Project, the Public Works Department will be constructing a noise barrier wall along rear property lines adjacent to Inkster Boulevard. DDS Consulting has been contracted to construct the noise barriers which will be built on City property. Noise barrier construction is anticipated to begin in mid-September with completion of most of the sections expected by November. The remaining barrier sections will be completed in spring 2011.
Area residents are being notified with a Pre-Construction Notice, Noise Barrier Wall Information document, and a Questionnaire / Contact Form to be completed by a resident in each property where noise barrier wall construction will occur.
Appearance:
The wall installed will be the “Stacked Stone” pattern (both sides) 3 metres (10 feet) high, as shown below (click on each image to see a larger version):

Construction:
Wall construction has been divided into sections as indicated in the illustration below (click on the image to see a larger version). Section Nos. 1 through 5 are expected to be completed this fall, with Nos. 6 and 7 constructed in the spring of 2011. However, with favourable conditions, more could be accomplished this year, and of course, slower progress may require deferring additional sections to the spring of 2011.
From start to finish, each section is expected to take up to three weeks to complete. The contractor will extend side fences as required, to re-enclose individual yards.
Information on construction and timing is given for general information only, and is highly subject to change based on weather and other construction factors.
After Construction:
After the two-year warranty period expires, the City will be responsible for the ongoing maintenance of the noise barrier wall. An agreement with each property owner regarding access for inspection and any future wall maintenance will be required.
