Rehabilitation of the Eastbound Span of the Fort Garry Twin Bridges Near Completion
The eastbound structure will be opened to traffic on Saturday, September 5, 2009
The public is advised that the rehabilitation of the eastbound span of the Fort Garry Twin Bridges over the Red River on Bishop Grandin Boulevard is near completion. Over the coming weekend (September 5 – September 7), eastbound traffic on Bishop Grandin Boulevard will be directed back onto the eastbound structure and the detours will be closed.
There will be construction activity associated with the re-opening this weekend, and some delays are anticipated eastbound and westbound on Bishop Grandin Boulevard during the transition.
Please be aware that:
- the temporary sidewalk on the westbound structure will not be removed until after September 7.
- until this temporary sidewalk is removed there will be a single lane closure in effect on westbound Bishop Grandin Boulevard during peak periods (two westbound lanes remain open); and
- intermittent closure of a second lane during off-peak periods (one westbound lane remains open).
Intermittent non-peak period closures may occur on eastbound Bishop Grandin Boulevard after September 7, as the final elements of the project are completed.
Motorists, cyclists and pedestrians should continue to exercise extra caution in the area.
The cooperation and patience of the public during construction has been appreciated.
